O

nce more we were approached by our friends from Boardwalk Pictures for a very demanding project: Shooting over 5700m (18,700+ ft)!

Boardwalk Pictures is well known for their food series like "Chef's Table" and "Street Food". Now in partnership with Oscilloscope Laboratories they have produced “Canary,” a documentary about a climate scientist who been referred to as “the closest living thing to Indiana Jones.” Danny O’Malley, a producer on “Chef’s Table,” directed the film with MIT-trained Neuroscientist Alex Rivest, PhD.

The subject of the film is Doctor Lonnie Thompson, who, in a press release, is referred to as an explorer “who went where no scientist had gone before and transformed our idea of what is possible.” He’s been globally recognized for his drilling an analysis of ice cores from various regions of the world in the hopes of better understanding the Earth’s climate.

Because of the conditions like high altitude, bad weather and mountain climbing requirements, this shoot was definitely one of the most demanding productions we've participated. Adding to the complex situation the per day cost of every person in the mountain is very high, and thus just a very limited quantity of support crew was able to participate.

IN MEMORIAM

This project was successful thanks to the late Niels Ahmes Gomez, an amazing drone operator and videographer. He flew the drone at this incredible altitude and was always up for the challenge. We miss you Niels!
